Your guide to a star-spangled summer on the Mississippi

Things to Do in La Crosse, WI

July 2026

From four days of Riverfest fireworks over the river to free Thursday concerts in Riverside Park, July is La Crosse at its small-town best. Here is your roundup of real, happening events, plus a few river-town classics worth the trip.

There is no better month to be in La Crosse. The city throws its biggest party of the year over the Fourth of July, the farmers markets are overflowing, and the bandshell down in Riverside Park hums with free music nearly every night of the week. 2026 carries an extra spark, too, with the nation marking its 250th birthday.

Whether you live here or you are driving the Great River Road, use the list below to find something to do, then climb Grandad Bluff for that three-state view before the sun goes down. Events are grouped into one-time July highlights, weekly happenings, and river-town favorites you can enjoy any day of the month.

Plan Your Visit

  • Many events are free. Moon Tunes, the concert band, the markets, Grandad Bluff, and Riverside Park all cost nothing, easy on a family budget.
  • Bring a lawn chair or blanket for evenings at the Riverside Park bandshell, and arrive early for a good spot.
  • Get there early on the Fourth. Riverfest and the fireworks draw big crowds downtown, so plan extra time for parking near the riverfront.
  • Parking downtown is generally free on weekends at the city ramps; weekday rates are low, with the first few hours often free.
  • Save the bluff for golden hour. Grandad Bluff is at its best at sunrise or sunset, bring a camera.
  • Always confirm before you go. Dates and times can shift; check each event's official link above to be sure.
